Your funnel as a stream: where does it leak?

leak 1 of 3

Product page to cart

18,600 of 20,000 shoppers stop here; 7.0% continue.

Likely causes

  • Delivery cost and date hidden until checkout
  • Too few photos, no sense of size or fit
  • Slow mobile page: the image arrives after the thumb has moved on
  • Add to cart sits below the fold on a phone
  • Sold-out sizes only revealed after choosing

Fixes I would test first

  • Delivery price and date next to the button
  • Size guide, fit notes and a photo with scale
  • Image sizing and preloading for a faster LCP
  • A sticky add to cart bar on mobile

Start the audit at the product pages: your numbers say the biggest win is there.

How the model works: it wins back 2 % of shoppers lost on product pages, 10 % of those lost in the cart and 20 % of those lost in checkout (the later the step, the stronger the intent), then carries them through the remaining steps at your own rates. It compares your leaks with each other, not with other stores.

Impact against effort: the fix list, before it is written

Every audit ends with this board. Move the cards to match your store and the ranked list on the right rewrites itself. Select a card and use the arrow keys, or drag it.

0 of 10 in place. Plenty to gain here, and most of it is settings rather than code.

What the conversion audit covers

Six areas, checked on mobile first because that is where most stores lose the most shoppers. Findings come with screenshots and a plain-language reason.

Product pages

Photos, price and delivery clarity, variant pickers, size and fit help, the add-to-cart position on a 390 px screen.

Cart

Surprise costs, free-shipping thresholds, upsells that distract, and how easy it is to get from cart to checkout.

Checkout and payments

Field count, address errors, guest checkout, express wallets and the local methods each country expects.

Speed

LCP, INP and CLS on product and checkout pages, measured in the field and in the lab, with the slow parts named.

Trust signals

Returns, delivery promises, contact details and company information placed where doubts appear, not in the footer.

Tracking check

The funnel is only as good as its events. I verify add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase with a test order.

Packages

Fixed prices in euros, excluding VAT 25.5 %. You keep the report and every account; there is no retainer unless you ask for one.

How the audit runs

Two weeks from access to report for most stores.

  1. 1

    Access

Read-only GA4 and a staff account on your store. No passwords by email.

  2. 2

    Measure

Funnel by device, country and traffic source; field speed data; tracking verified.

  3. 3

    Shop it

I buy from your store on real phones and note every hesitation.

  4. 4

    Rank

Each finding placed on the impact and effort board, then written up.

  5. 5

    Fix, if you like

I build the quick wins, or hand the list to your developer.

When I would not start with conversion work

A better checkout cannot fix a problem that sits somewhere else.

  • 01Your tracking is broken or missing. Fix that first with GA4 and server-side tracking, or every number in the audit is a guess.
  • 02You get very few visitors. The bottleneck is traffic, and ecommerce SEO or Meta Ads will help sooner.
  • 03You expect A/B tests on a store with a few dozen orders a month. Tests that small never reach a reliable answer; I make one careful change at a time instead.

Questions about conversion optimisation

What is a good ecommerce conversion rate?

The useful benchmark is your own store last month, step by step. Rates vary widely with price, product type, device and traffic source, so an industry average says little about you. I compare product page, cart and checkout rates by device and channel, because a weak step shows up there long before the overall rate moves.

Do you run A/B tests?

Yes, when your traffic can support them. A test needs enough orders in each version to give a reliable answer, which many smaller stores do not have. In that case I make one well-reasoned change at a time and compare full weeks before and after, and I tell you plainly which method I am using.

Can you fix issues you find?

Yes. I build stores on Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and OpenCart, so I can implement most fixes myself, from checkout settings and theme code to speed work. Fixes are billed at €95 an hour or as a fixed price per fix. If you have a developer, the report is written so they can do it instead.
