Tampere, 21 March, 14:00 solar time. Sun 24° above the horizon in the south-south-west. About 7.4 m² of floor in direct sun.

Solar position from latitude, date and hour angle, without refraction or the equation of time. In Tampere, clock time runs roughly 25 minutes (winter) to 85 minutes (summer) ahead of solar time. Real projects use the exact site, orientation and date you choose.

What I build a scene from

Drawings are enough to start. The more of this list you can send, the fewer questions and the faster the first grey model. Missing a model of a furniture piece? Product modelling covers it.

  1. 1Floor plans with dimensionsPDF, DWG or DXF. Scanned drawings work if the dimensions are legible.
  2. 2HeightsSections or elevations, or simply ceiling height, window sill and head heights, door sizes.
  3. 3Orientation and lightA north arrow and the month and time of day you want shown, like the sun model above.
  4. 4Materials and finishesA finish schedule, product codes, NCS or RAL colours, or a mood board.
  5. 5Furniture and fittingsLinks or model numbers for key pieces. Generic furniture is used where nothing is specified.
  6. 6Views and useCamera positions marked on the plan, where the images go (brochure, listing, presentation) and your deadline.

Stills, 360 views and walk-throughs

Three deliverables from the same model. Start with one still; the 360 view and the video reuse the scene, so they cost less added later than ordered alone.

You approve the grey model first. Camera angles, proportions and furniture layout are agreed on an untextured model. If a view is wrong, it is fixed there, before materials and light go on and before the second half of the invoice.

When I would not recommend this

A visualisation is a picture of a design, not the design itself. Some jobs need something else first.

  • 01You need drawings for a building permit (rakennuslupa). Images can support a permit presentation, but they never replace the designer's drawings; check what your municipality asks for.
  • 02There are no measured plans yet. A site survey comes before a render, or the image will show a room that does not exist.
  • 03Whole residential blocks with landscaping and dozens of views. A dedicated visualisation team with a render farm will be faster; I will say so.
  • 04Buyers should pick finishes live in the browser. That is a real-time web project; see 3D viewers and AR.

From drawing to finished room

Five steps, each with something you can look at and approve.

  1. 1

    Plans in

I read the drawings, list anything missing and confirm the fixed price.

  2. 2

    Grey model

Walls, openings and furniture blocked out in Blender, with the camera views for you to approve. Have a SketchUp, Revit or ArchiCAD model? Send it as FBX or OBJ, or IFC, which is imported with an add-on owner to confirm.

  3. 3

    Materials and light

Finishes applied, sun set to your site, month and hour. One round of changes.

  4. 4

    Final render

Stills rendered in Blender Cycles for physically accurate daylight, then checked for scale, verticals and colour.

  5. 5

    Delivery

Print and web files, plus the 360 view or video if ordered, and the usage rights.

Made in Blender. Interiors and buildings are modelled, lit and rendered in Blender, with Cycles for stills. Real-time walk-throughs in Twinmotion, Unreal Engine or D5 Render owner to confirm. Why Blender, and what you get

Questions about visualisation

What do you need from me?

Floor plans with dimensions are enough to start, as PDF, DWG or DXF. Add ceiling, sill and window head heights, a finish list or mood board, and the views you want marked on the plan. Tell me where the images will be used and your deadline, and I will confirm anything missing before quoting.

Can you do interior design options?

Yes. Once a room is modelled, swapping finishes, furniture or colour schemes is much quicker than building a new scene, so two or three options from the same camera are a common request. I visualise the choices you or your designer make; I do not replace an interior designer's advice.

Do you provide 360 views?

Yes, as equirectangular panoramas that work in common web viewers and many listing tools, plus a simple embed for your own site. A 360 view is quoted per scene because the whole room must be finished, not only what one camera sees. Order it with stills and the same model is reused.
